In a landscape where academics are often prioritized with little or no room left for sports, Brilliant Strides Academy is taking a refreshing and commendable approach to education.

Erema Jidekene, the school’s Administrator, emphasized the importance of balancing sports and academics during an interview with Kristina Reports on Saturday, March 8, 2025.

“Sports is an extracurricular activity that should not be undermined, she said.”We have students who seem not to be very high up there academically, but they are still doing wonderfully out here. And then it’s just a way of creating balance and showing that beyond the academics in the classroom, there is also room outdoors for people to compete in life.”

She also highlighted the value of sports in exposing students to new experiences and imparting important life skills.

“Sports is part of the curriculum, and it has a great way of exposing the learners to other areas of life and competition, competing fairly and favourably with one another.”

Jidekene attributed the success of the event to the student’s commitment to being a part of the first-ever inter-house sports competition.

“They were committed to being the first, and they kept looking forward to it every single day. There were so many rehearsals that went into it, and the more they met and rehearsed, the more they felt committed to the event.”

Looking ahead, the Admin revealed the school’s plans to expand the sports program.

“Going forward, we intend to have more medals to give to more people, probably include other sporting activities that were not included here today, and then train the children to be good Sportsmen, so that they can be able to accept defeat and still move on.”

The school’s effort and desire to promote sports were praised and echoed by students, teachers, and parents. Mathematics teacher Nicholas Okereke, who was a house captain of the winning Green House, commended the school’s attitude towards sports.” It is great, especially with the help of young teachers and the games master.”

Jidekene concluded by expressing her delight at the event.

“The response is wonderful, and we enjoyed ourselves today. We’re already looking forward to next year’s event, she expressed.

Green House emerged victorious in both the pre-inter-house sports competition and the Interhouse Sports main day activities, finishing with 266 points. Yellow House came in close second with 246 points, while Red House took the third spot with 184 points.

Indeed, we can all look back at yesterday and feel that we tried but when we think about tomorrow we know we have to try some more to beat yesterday’s record. This what the playing field of life dictates as a norm.
