As the momentum gathers ahead of the 2023 General Elections, a chieftain of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Bonny Local Government Area of Rivers State has declared his intention to contest for the Bonny Constituency seat in the State House of Assembly.
Kabaka-Brown, who made disclosed his intention known to APC Caucus in Bonny LGA led by the Leader of the party and former Commissioner for Transport, George Tolofari, on Tuesday, March 1, 2022 in Bonny, Rivers State, said his decision to contest was predicated on extensive consultations across the party.
“My expression of interest is borne out of extensive consultations with vertical and horizontal lines of the party structure and I believe this is my time to serve the good people of Bonny State Constituency through the APC.”
The seasoned technocrat, who is doctoral degree student in Public Administration at the Lagos State University (LASU), stressed that “it is not in doubt that my long years of service in both the public and private sector has strengthened my capacity and prepared me to take up this responsibility.”
Expressing his staunch confidence in the leadership of his party at the national, state and local government levels, Kabaka-Brown, solicited their support in achieving his aspiration of serving his kinsmen and women in the Bonny State Constituency within the legislative environment with a view to attracting democratic dividends to the area.
“I believe in the leadership of the party and I know that your support in this regard is critical to enthroning efficiency in the already shaky socio-political atmosphere of Bonny politics. As such, no one is better placed to salvage Bonny from political and socio-economic oblivion than my humble self.”
Onimi Kabaka Brown, son of Highlife Music legend and guitar virtuoso, Easy Kabaka Brown, who obtained his Bachelor of Science (B.Sc.) degree in Computer Science from the University of Port Harcourt, Choba, and later obtained his Master’s degree in Public Administration from the Lagos State University, has had a pedigree in the Legislative turf where he had served as a former Chief Whip of the 7th Bonny Legislative Assembly.
A staunch believer in the potentials of youths, having served as a Director of Socials and Community Development in the Bonny Kingdom Development Committee (BKDC) for two years representing Bonny youths, where his leadership acumen and negotiating skills saw to the initiation of the NLNG/Maritime Academy, Oron Scholarship for Bonny indigenes, which was his brainchild, after several strategic interface meetings with relevant stakeholders.
Kristina Reports checks indicate that during the 7th Assembly, wherein Onimi and his colleagues served was regarded as the most eventful in the annals of legislative governance in Bonny LGA, as it raised the bar of responsible representation by the way of the number of byelaws, resolutions, motions and attendance ratio to plenary.
