German Budesliga leader, Bayern Munich gave a dazzling display, trumping Spanish La Liga giants, FC Barcelona in a stunning 8-2 win over the Blaugrana.

This appears to show just why the Bavarians are regarded as the best team in the world favourites to win the Champions League title.

Thomas Muller and Philippe Coutinho scored twice each while Ivan Perisic, Joshua Kimmich, Serge Gnabry and Robert Lewandoski scored one goal apiece to give the victory to the Bavarians.

Barcelona was able to pull back two of the goals through an own goal from David Alaba and another goal by Luiz Suarez to bring the final score to 8-2 in favour of the rampaging Germans.

With tonight’s win Bayern Munich are set to confront English Premiership favourites Manchester City in the semi-final match.

Bayern Munich has recorded some remarkable progress since Hans-Dieter Flick took over in November, having won 31 of 34 games, lifted the Bundesliga trophy and added the DFB-Pokal. Now they are just two wins away from becoming European champions for the sixth time.

No other side left in the Champions League has won the competition even once. Bayern have the history, the pedigree and this season, they have the team unity to go all the way for the first time since 2013.
