The Senator representing Adamawa North senatorial district, Elisha Cliff Abbo may spent the night in a police cell today as the Inspector General of Police (IGP), Mohammad Adamu, has ordered his arrest.
The IGP also ordered the arrest of his orderly.
This was part of the mandate of an investigative team set up by the Police Force headquarters in Abuja today in response to the outrage that greeted a viral video showing Abbo assaulting two ladies in a sex toy shop in Abuja, one of them a nursing mother.
Kristina Reports learnt that investigations were currently ongoing at the Federal Capital Territory police command into the alleged attack on the two women by Abbo, who is a serving senator in Abuja.
The news of the attack went viral after a video recorded by the Close Circuit Television (CCTV), installed in the shop was shared on the social media, an act which was said to have embarrassed the police authorities.
The Nigerian Senate has also begun investigations into the embarrassing incident.
Following a point of order raised at plenary today by Senator representing Kaduna Central, Uba Sani, on a matter of assault allegedly carried out by Senator Elisha Cliff Abbo, the President of the Senate, Ahmed Lawan, directed that, while it remains an allegation, the matter should be investigated and all sides given fair hearing.
On the barrage of criticisms by public figures including former Minister of Aviation, Femi Fani-Kayode, spokesman of the Buhari Campaign Organization, Festus Keyamo, and Special Adviser to the President on Diaspora, Abike Dabiri-Erewa, regarding the irresponsible conduct of Abbo’s police orderly, Force Public Relations Officer (FPRO), Frank Mba said the Police was doing everything within their powers to restore dignity to the force.
The police orderly attached to the senator instead of restraining him from assaulting the women or arresting him for the act, chose to obey the senator’s orders and arrested the victims of the violent assault.
According to Police sources, the incident actually happened in a sex-toy shop in Abuja, where the senator had gone to make purchases.
The video which has been circulating the internet, shows the angry Senator beating up the sales girl, and ordered his police orderly to take her away.
Meanwhile, hundreds of protesters led by activist, Deji Adeyanju, this morning besieged the Nigeria Police Force headquarters demanding the arrest and prosecution of the Senator, who was elected on the platform of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) for the assault on the women at the sex toy shop in Abuja.
