The Bonny Local Government has called on relevant stakeholders to converge efforts at curbing attacks on travelers by hoodlums on the Bonny-Port Harcourt sea route, just as it also urged the people of the area to support the fight against the mayhem currently going on in the area.
Chairman of the Caretaker Committee of Bonny LGA, Anengi Claude-Wilcox made this call on Thursday, September 5, 2024 via a statement by her Chief Press Secretary, Boma Waribor, in Bonny, Rivers State.
She stressed the need for all stakeholders to come together and end the insecurities going on in the waterways in Bonny LGA, pointing to the series of attacks and loss of lives that had happened due to the sea pirate attacks and the negative impact of such attacks on the lives and properties of the people of the area.
“We understand the concerns of those who regularly travel and do their legitimate business within these routes and the profound impact these incidents have on the citizens.”
She also assured the people of the efforts of the government in making sure that the problem is resolved without no further delay, enjoining them to trust the process that will guarantee a permanent solution.
The CTC Chairman advised the people to desist from turning the issue of the sea piracy into political and social media battles, stating that lives and properties are involved.
“The memory of the innocent lives lost in the Banigo 5 tragic incident remains fresh in our minds, and we must honour their memory by focusing on meaningful actions rather than divisive social media discourses.”
“Individuals with vital information are encouraged to meet the designated security agencies or to the office of the Bonny Caretaker Committee Chairman to help the government in tackling the situation on ground.
