Bonny Kingdom Announces New Restrictions for Ikuba Nungo

The King Perekule Palace in Bonny, Rivers State has announced new restrictions for the traditional convergence square, Ikuba Nungo, also known as Ikuba Square.

The announcement signed by the Secretary to the King Perekule Palace, Amaopusenibo Festus Pepple declared the square a restricted area, warning against desecration and trespass.

The announcement also disclosed that a special committee identified as Ikuba Committee has been set up and tasked with enforcing the restrictions.

The new restrictions are reproduced below:

“SPECIAL NOTICE

This is Ikuba Square; take note of the following rules:

  1. No playing of football.
  2. No sitting on King Perekule Rostrum.
  3. No indecent dressing: for both men and women: short dresses, mini skirts, and clothes that reveal female anatomy.
  4. No stopping, parking or turning around the Square.
  5. No fighting or violent conduct.
  6. Speed limit is 10 km per hour.
  7. No rafia play is allowed to operate to and fro within Ikuba Square during traditional ceremonies.

Note: Ikuba Committee has been empowered to enforce these rules; defaulters will be penalized in accordance with the traditional law.”

Ikuba Nungo has for ages been the traditional meeting place for the Amanyanabo of Bonny Kingdom and his people where kingdom related issues are discussed, as well as traditional ceremonies.
