Tension has continued to mount in the atmosphere as the biggest sand soccer tournament, the Bonny Island Sand Soccer Tournament 2021 kicks off today.
According to the organizers, Bonny Atlas, 20 teams are slugging it out on the sands of the Local Government Industrial Unit (LGIU) field, venue of the competition, in their bid to snatch the coveted trophy.
The 16 qualified teams include Godbless United, Bonny Stars FC, Top Boiz FC, Eight Brothers FC, Genuine FC, Igbo Brothers, BVC FC, Atlantic FC, Bonny Good-Brothers, Okoloma FC, Divine Super-Stars, Awanta United, Commonwealth FC, Chrisolyte FC, Happy-People FC and Al Kayr FC; while those on standby are Unique FC, Kings FC, Okoloma Tramplers and Perekule FC.
Ahead of the kick-off of the tournament, an orientation session was held during the live draw, wherein the participants were acquainted with relevant information regarding the beginning and knockout stages.
Bonny Atlas informed that the four standby teams could have a chance to participate should any of the qualified teams be disqualified during the medicals.
Prizes to be won at the tournament include “Best Player 2021”, “Golden Gloves 2021”, and “Top Goal Scorer 2021”, a cash prize of three hundred thousand naira for the winning team, amongst others.
This tournament organized by Bonny Atlas has shown its great potential to expand the economy of Bonny Island and enlarge its partnership, gaining recognition all over the state and the country at large.
