Governor of Bayelsa State, Douye Diri has appointed a former Speaker of the State House of Assembly, Konbowei Benson as the Secretary to the State Governor.

He also appointed the son of strong ally of former President Goodluck Jonathan, George Turnah, as Chief of Staff, Government House, and Peter Akpe as Deputy Chief of Staff.

Turnah, the son of His Highness, King Amalate Turnah, a strong ally and confidant of Jonathan, is facing corruption charges preferred against him by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) for alleged misappropriation of funds running into billions of Naira earmarked for development projects in the Niger Delta during the Jonathan era.

Diri also appointed Lucky Youboga as his Special Assistant on Domestic Matters.

The newly inaugurated Governor of Bayelsa State has earlier called on the Minister of State for Petroleum, Timipre Sylva, ousted governorship candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC), David Lyon, his running mate, Biobarakuma Degi-Eremienyo, and the entire leadership and faithful of the APC in the state to join in moving the State forward.

it is yet a matter of conjecture if they will accept the olive branch held out to them by Diri.
