Armed Forces Committee on the Review of Joint Defence Doctrine Consults 6 Division in Port Harcourt
The Nigeria Armed Forces have intensified efforts to update the country’s Joint Defence Doctrine to reflect evolving security challenges and modern operational realities.
According to a press statement by the Acting Deputy Director, 6 Division Nigerian Army Public Relations, Lt. Col. Umar Adam, the Committee on the Review of the Joint Defence Doctrine 2017, as part of the review process, visited the Headquarters of the 6 Division Nigerian Army in Port Harcourt, Rivers State, on Tuesday July 14, 2026 to consult with senior military officers and gather professional inputs for the 2026 edition of the doctrine.

Leading the delegation, Chairman of the Committee, Major General Ademola Adedoja, said the review was directed by the Chief of Defence Staff, General Olufemi Oluyede, to ensure the doctrine remains relevant to current security realities and operational demands across the country.

He explained that previous attempts to review the document in 2022 and 2025 were not completed, prompting the current exercise, which began in June 2026. According to him, the review focuses on key areas including logistics, command and control, technology, emerging threats, future warfare, and inter-agency collaboration.

Major General Adedoja urged commanders and staff officers to provide honest and constructive recommendations, assuring them that all submissions would be carefully considered in producing a comprehensive and practical defence doctrine.
Representing the General Officer Commanding 6 Division Nigerian Army, Major General Emmanuel Emekah, the Chief of Staff, Brigadier General Emmanuel Adamu, welcomed the committee and reaffirmed the division’s commitment to supporting the review through valuable operational insights.

The visit concluded with an interactive session during which senior officers made observations and recommendations on key doctrinal issues. Also, there was presentation of a souvenir to the committee chairman, and a group photograph marking the consultative engagement.
