In solidarity with personnel of the armed forces, the Chairman of Bonny Local Government Area of Rivers State, Anengi Claude-Wilcox, accompanied by senior officers of the various security services, laid wreaths in commemoration of the 2025 Armed Forces Remembrance Day.
The event took place on Wednesday, January 15, 2025 at the Government School field, Bonny, Rivers State.
Speaking at the occasion, Claude-Wilcox commended the efforts and sacrifices of the military personnel in keeping the nation safe adding that the armed force has been a major pillar of the nation.
“They often put themselves in harm’s way to protect our peace and security. You endured a period of separation from your families and loved ones, and sometimes the unbearable pain of loss. We owe a debt of gratitude that words cannot fully express.”
She recognised the effort of fallen heroes who sacrificed their time, services and life for the nation, adding that the ultimate sacrifice paid has not only secured the present but also shapened the future.
She honoured gallant military retirees, Police and other paramilitary organisations, who served with valour and love, adding that their selflessness is the bedrock upon which the nation stands.
The Bonny LGA Chairman also commiserated with the families and friends of fallen heroes in the military assuring them of commitment to ensuring the welfare of the military personnel, both serving and retired.
She admonished youths to offer themselves to noble profession as the military, saying it provides opportunities for a good source of livelihood and a privilege to serve the nation. The chairman enjoined all patriots to uphold the spirit of respect and honour for the military.
In attendance at the event were the Vice Chairman of Bonny LGA, Omoni Longjohn, Leader of Bonny Legislature, Erefagha Allaputa, Commanding Officer, 146 Battalion, Nigerian Army, who was represented by the Battalion’s Operations Officer, Capt. Ernest Nwama, Divisional Police Officer, Bonny, Anthony Anyalechi, and Divisional Officer, Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps, Bonny, Mamah Sunday, among others.
