Alleged Attack on INEC Chairman’s House: Police Vows to Unravel Purveyors of Viral Video

The Nigeria Police Force (NPF) says it would soon unravel those behind the viral video alleging attack on a property purported to belong to the Chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), Professor Mahmood Yakubu in Bauchi, Bauchi State.

The Public Relations Officer of the Bauchi State Police Command, Ahmed Wakili, a Superintendent of Police (SP), who disclosed this, informed that the State Commissioner of Police, Aminu Alhassan has “ordered a discreet investigation to unravel the origin of the viral video and to bring anyone found behind the fabrication of the video to face the wrath of the law”.

He stated that news making rounds alleging that the house of the INEC Chairman in Bauchi was under attack by hoodlums was false, clarifying that “such an incident never occurred in the State as the report is fake and should be disregarded by Nigerians”.

“The attention of the Command was drawn to a viral video on social media that the residence of INEC Chairman was attacked in Bauchi by some “angry Nigerians.”

“The Command wishes to unequivocally state that there was no attack of any nature on the residence of the INEC Chairman and in Bauchi in general.”

The Bauchi PPRO warned netizens to be “mindful of the negative impacts of disinformation on public peace, and security, particularly during the post-election period,” urging everyone to identify with and work for information verification and exhibit restraint in purveyor unverified information.
