Akwa Ibom State Governor’s wife, Patience Eno says young girls suffering from life threatening diseases should not go back to their old ways after receiving treatment.
She also announced her readiness to sponsor further surgical obstetric repairs on Blessing Ekanem, a young lady who suffers from obstetrics injuries.
Eno, who said this when she visited the Pope John Paul Family Life Centre/VVF Hospital, Mbribit Itam in Itu LGA to donate medical equipment to the medical centre on behalf of the Esop Ibaan Akwa Ibom, Dallas, USA, offered to take care of all the medical bills required for the operations she has to undergo.
“I deliberately called you children earlier because the reason why you are here today is as a result of childish behaviours but because the mistake has been done and you are here, God is now giving you a second chance.”
Blessing Ekanem, now 20 years old, got pregnant at the age of 13, and had undergone seven re-constructive surgical operations with no relief in sight and is in need of another urgent attention in order to be declared fit and whole again.
The Akwa Ibom First Lady thanked the Esop Ibaan Akwa Ibom Dallas, for their love for their roots in spite of distance, lauding their great sense of patriotism, as well as appreciating the efforts of the caregivers and health workers in giving life back to those in dire need, praying God to bless them accordingly.
“If this hospital were to buy the equipment, I am not sure they will readily be able to afford it, but the grace of God is all sufficient that God has inspired somebody all the way from United State of America to send this down to you, we say may God bless her, wherever she is, whatever she does, God bless and prosper her.”
“And as you use this equipment, it will prosper in your hand, the patients they will use this equipment’s for, they will be cured, they will be well and will be made whole again.”
In expression of her motherly disposition, the Governor’s wife toured the wards of the hospital where she also off-set the medical bills of many indigent patients.
Welcoming the wife of Governor to the health facility, the Administrator, Rosemary Akpa said the Family Life Centre/VVF Hospital was an initiative of Dr. Ann Ward, who until her demise was an obstetrician/gynaecologist who dedicated her life to serving humanity and was a member of the Medical Missionaries of Mary.
She reeled out the activities of the hospital in the last five years, to include undertaking a total of 506 surgical repairs out of which 416 patients are from Akwa Ibom State while 90 are from other parts of the country.
She thanked the Governor’s wife for the visit and the Esop Ibaan Akwa Ibom Dallas for supplying the medical equipment, highlighting the challenges facing the hospital to include lack of power supply, funding and renovations of blocks, calling for help in this regard and praying God to bless the Governor.
The wife of the Paramount Ruler of Eket LGA, HRM Akwa Obonganwan Mandu Abia speaking on behalf of the President of Esop Ibaan Akwa Ibom, Dallas Branch, USA, Eno Ebong, said the medical equipment donated to the hospital is to facilitate the treatment and recovery of patients.
She applauded the wife of the Governor for obliging to receive and present the equipments to the hospital.
Some of the survivors of VVF including Happiness Udoudo of Ikono LGA, shared their pathetic experience and the support received from the officials of the health facility.
Present at the event were the wives of the Speaker and Deputy Speaker of the Akwa Ibom State House of Assembly, Margaret Otong and Enobong Edidem; members of the State House of Assembly, Dr. Itoro Etim (Uruan Constituency), and Selina Ukpatu (Eastern Obolo Constituency), Commissioner for Women Affairs and Social Welfare, Dr. Ini Adiakpan, Commissioner for Education, Idongesit Etiebiet, and wife of the Paramount Ruler of Onna LGA, HRM Unwaowo Inyang, among others.
