Abua/Odual Arms Security Agencies with 5 Patrol Vehicles, 15 Motorcycles

The Abua/Odual Local Government Area of Rivers State has launched a major grassroots security intervention, deploying five fully equipped patrol vehicles, more than 15 motorcycles and communication and operational equipment to security agencies across the local government area.

The Chairman of the LGA, Owolobi Michael, who unveiled the security assets on Friday, August 28, 2026, in Abua, Rivers State, said the intervention was a deliberate and decisive action by the ‘Uru Odighi’ Administration to strengthen the local security architecture.

Owolobi, who said the initiative followed recommendations by the Rivers State Commissioner of Police, Olugbenga Adepoju, during an earlier engagement with the council on measures required to improve security operations at the grassroots, stated that it will improve rapid response and provide greater protection for residents, communities and businesses.

Responding to the recommendations, according to him, the LG Council provided five specially designed and fully equipped pickup vehicles, over 15 motorcycles, communication gadgets, handcuffs and other operational equipment to enhance the effectiveness of security personnel deployed across Abua/Odual.

Commissioning the equipment, CP Adepoju commended the Uru Odighi Administration for its commitment to strengthening grassroots security and supporting law enforcement agencies with the operational tools required to effectively discharge their responsibilities.

The Commissioner’s commendation, according to the council chairman, underscored the importance of sustained collaboration between the local government and security agencies in confronting security challenges and protecting communities.

Owolobi expressed appreciation to CP Adepoju for his guidance and for personally commissioning the equipment, saying the council would continue to work with the police and other security formations to improve security across Abua/Odual.

He said the intervention was targeted at some of the critical operational challenges confronting security personnel, particularly mobility, patrol coverage, communication and rapid response.

With the deployment of the vehicles and motorcycles, security personnel are expected to expand patrol coverage, gain easier access to communities and difficult-to-reach areas and respond more swiftly to security incidents.

The communication equipment, he added, would improve coordination among security personnel, facilitate faster transmission of intelligence and strengthen responses to emerging threats.

Owolobi said the investment was a clear demonstration that security remains at the centre of the Uru Odighi Administration’s governance agenda.

He stressed that no meaningful development could take place where residents, businesses and communities were constantly confronted by fear and insecurity.

According to him, the administration’s responsibility extends beyond the provision of infrastructure and social services to creating the secure environment necessary for residents to live, work, travel and conduct their businesses without undue fear.

“A safe environment is essential for the wellbeing and prosperity of our people. We will continue to support the security agencies with the resources and partnerships required to keep Abua/Odual safe,” he said.

The chairman reaffirmed the council’s determination to deepen cooperation with the police and other security agencies, saying the latest intervention was part of a broader strategy to build a more responsive and effective grassroots security system.

He also urged traditional rulers, community leaders, youth organisations and residents to complement the efforts of security agencies by providing timely and credible information capable of preventing crime and identifying emerging threats.

The council chairman made it clear that the deployment of the security assets was not intended as a one-off intervention.

He said the administration would continue to explore partnerships and practical measures capable of strengthening security operations and improving the capacity of security agencies to protect communities across the LGA.

“We will do more,” Owolobi said, reaffirming that the administration would remain proactive in responding to security needs.

“The safety of our people and protection of lives and property remain a top priority of the Uru Odighi Administration.”

The intervention places Abua/Odual among local government administrations taking a more active role in supporting security agencies with logistics and operational resources, particularly at the grassroots where mobility, intelligence gathering and rapid response are critical to crime prevention.

For the Uru Odighi Administration, the message is unequivocal: security is not an afterthought but a fundamental responsibility of governance.

By strengthening the operational capacity of security agencies, the council said it was laying the foundation for safer communities, greater economic activity and a more stable environment in which residents and businesses can thrive.
