BECE 2026: Rivers Government Pays Examination Fees, Warn Teachers Against Illegal Charges
Students preparing to sit for the 2026 Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE) in Rivers State can begin final preparations as the State Ministry of Education has announced that the examination will officially commence on Wednesday, July 1, 2026.
The announcement was issued on June 25, 2026, and signed by Director of the Examinations and Records Department, Pastor Gideon Nwachukwu Uboh, on behalf of the Commissioner for Education.
The ministry also reminded all public and private schools across the state to ensure that every candidate is fully prepared for the examination before the scheduled date.
According to the ministry, schools in all Local Government Areas, except Obio/Akpor, are required to visit their respective Zonal Education Offices to collect and return examination materials.
Schools located in Obio/Akpor have been directed to first confirm their designated custodial centres.
Community Secondary School, Okoro-Nu-Odo will serve schools in Zone I, State Primary School I, Rumuapara will handle Zone II, while Community Secondary School, Ozuoba will serve schools under Zone III.
The Rivers State Government also announced that it has paid the full BECE examination fees for all students in public schools across the state.
Consequently, the ministry warned that no principal or teacher should demand money from any public school student under any guise.
The government added that any school official found extorting students will face disciplinary action.
