Khana LG Chairman Visits Injured Bangha Monarch, Rejects Allegations of Calmness

The Chairman of Khana Local Government Area, Thomas Bariere, has paid a visit to the traditional ruler of Bangha Kingdom, King Suanu T. Y. Baridam, following his recovery from injuries sustained during an assassination attempt earlier this year.

King Baridam, who also serves as Chairman of the Khana Traditional Rulers Council, was reportedly shot by unknown gunmen on January 25, 2026, while travelling to a meeting in a neighbouring community. The attack left both the monarch and his driver seriously injured and raised security concerns across the area.

During the visit on Monday, April 20, 2026, Bariere expressed gratitude for the monarch’s recovery, describing it as a relief for the entire community. He reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to protecting lives and property, stating that failure to do so would amount to a breakdown of law and order.

The council chairman condemned the attack and linked it to broader security challenges in parts of the local government. He disclosed that arrests had been made in connection with the incident and that investigations were ongoing, with suspects providing useful information.

Bariere also addressed allegations made against him on some media platforms, dismissing them as false and intended to distract from ongoing efforts to bring the perpetrators to justice. He maintained that his administration would not be deterred from pursuing those responsible.

Responding, King Baridam thanked the chairman for the visit and support received during his recovery. He expressed confidence that those behind the attack would be identified and prosecuted.

“The attack on my life will not go unpunished. Those responsible will be brought to justice, no matter how long it takes,” he stated.

“I cannot be threatened or silenced. I have dedicated my resources and time to ensure peace in Nyokhana. I will continue to engage with communities and strengthen peacebuilding efforts across all villages,” he added.

The monarch also urged residents, particularly youths, to remain vigilant and work with authorities to improve security across communities in Khana.
