Yeghe Youth President Released After Detention

The Youth President of Yeghe Community, Steve Neebee, has regained his freedom after spending over a week in police detention.

Neebee was released on Saturday, April 18, 2026, from the Police Area Command in Bori, the administrative headquarters of Khana Local Government Area, where he had been held by the Nigeria Police Force.

His release came less than 24 hours after a peaceful protest by community youths and stakeholders, who had on April 17 marched to the Bori Area Command demanding his immediate and unconditional release.

The protest drew significant participation and remained orderly, as demonstrators engaged the Area Commander, Abba Frank, over the continued detention of the youth leader.

Speaking during the protest, Youth Assembly Secretary Bright Ngiah, alongside former Acting Youth President Barile Penu and National Union of Bua-Yeghe Students President Barisuka Toporo, called for fairness and justice, urging the police to facilitate Neebee’s release.

In response, the Area Commander assured the protesters of his commitment to maintaining peace and addressing their concerns promptly.

News of Neebee’s release has since been met with widespread celebration in Yeghe, as residents gathered in large numbers to welcome him back, describing him as a respected and influential youth leader in the community.
