AFCON 2025: Ex-Premier League Star Salutes Super Eagles After Ruthless Victory Over Mozambique
The Super Eagles of Nigeria sent a strong message at the ongoing Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) 2025 with a crushing win over Mozambique that booked their place in the quarter-finals.

Former Nigeria forward Odion Ighalo, who previously played in the Premier League, applauded the team’s approach after a display built on speed, control, and sharp finishing.
Super Eagles tear through Mozambique in Round of 16 clash
Nigeria were at their best on Monday night as the Eagles powered to a 4–0 victory over the Mambas at the Complexe Sportif de Fès.
Éric Chelle’s men set the tone early and stayed on the front foot throughout the contest, leaving Mozambique chasing shadows.
Victor Osimhen delivered a clinical performance, scoring twice to take his tally to three goals at AFCON 2025.

Ademola Lookman added to the pressure with a well-worked goal, while Akor Adams capped off the scoring to complete a dominant night for the three-time champions.
Super Eagles earn glowing review from Ighalo
Speaking from the Supersport studio, Odion Ighalo was full of praise for how the Super Eagles handled the match.
The former Watford and Manchester United striker highlighted Nigeria’s ability to maintain high intensity from kickoff to the final whistle.
Ighalo noted that even with a comfortable lead, the Eagles continued to push forward and dictate play.
He described the performance as refreshing and admitted it was one of the most complete outings from the team in recent times.

“They are in the quarterfinals, and the way they did it today was exceptional,” Ighalo said.
“From start to finish, they dominated the game. And one thing I like about this game again is the same pace they used from the start; the same pace they’re using to finish the game; even after four-zero, they were still going.
“I’ve not seen the Eagles play like this in the last few years. So I’m happy about this game.”
The Super Eagles’ emphatic 4–0 victory over Mozambique equals Nigeria’s largest winning margin at the Africa Cup of Nations, alongside the 4–0 group-stage success against South Africa in 2004.
The result also represents Nigeria’s first run of four straight wins since the opening four matches of the 2023 AFCON.
The victory also moves Nigeria into the quarter-finals of AFCON 2025, where the Super Eagles will face either Algeria or the Democratic Republic of Congo.
