KILLING OF ACP OLIVER INOMA-ABBEY: IGBO COMMUNITY DISTANCES SELF, CONDOLES WITH BONNY KINGDOM

It is with grief and telling regret that we received the news of the killing of Assistant Commissioner of Police (ACP) Oliver Inoma-Abbey, who we understand was just elected Chief of the Abbey-Hart House of Grand Bonny Kingdom in the fracas between the Nigeria Police and the Independent Peoples Of Biafra (IPOB) at Oraifite in Ekwusigo Local Government Area of Anambra State.

We wish to make it categorically clear that the Igbo Nation, as an ethnic nationality, and as age-long partners in progress with the Ancient Kingdom of Grand Bonny, does not have a hand in this dastardly act and wish to dissociate ourselves from the incident.

Our relationship, as a people, with the good people of Bonny Kingdom predates even Nigeria and this relationship has resulted in intermarriages and seen business partnerships thrive over the years and these are very cherished and sacred symbols of our relationship.

We share with the revered Amanyanabo and Natural Ruler of Grand Bonny Kingdom, His Majesty, King Edward Asimini William Dappa Pepple III, Perekule XII, CON, JP, the respected Chiefs, Titled Citizens, and great people of Bonny Kingdom in their grief at this trying time. We regret that this distressing incident happened in our homeland.

We humbly ask that you take solace in the fact that the Almighty God has the best answer to this confusing situation and also our sincere condolences to the immediate family, the Abbey-Hart House, and the Bonny Kingdom in general. We stand with you in this period of mourning.

We also use this medium to call on President Muhammadu Buhari, Federal Government, Nigeria Police Force, and all other relevant security agencies to swiftly bring to book to face the wrath of the law the perpetrators of this dastardly act.

On the whole, we deeply appreciate the hospitality and accommodating spirit of the Bonny people and love shown us by the Amanyanabo and Natural Ruler of Grand Bonny Kingdom, His Majesty, King Edward Asmini William Dappa Pepple III, Perekule XII, CON, JP, the respected Chiefs of Bonny Kingdom, the titled citizens, and great people of Bonny Kingdom, which have led to the success of the businesses of our people and also the opportunities for livelihoods in the community. We shall not forget.
