NSCDC Intercepts Truck Allegedly Hauling Vandalized Streetlight Poles in Abuja

The Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) says it has intercepted a truck suspected to be transporting vandalized streetlight poles in the Federal Capital Territory, Abuja.

A statement by the Public Relations Officer of the NSCDC FCT Command, Monica Ojobi on Tuesday, August 5, 2025, disclosed that the incidented vehicle was halted by the Critical National Assets and Infrastructure (CNAI) Crack Squad of the Corps while on its way to Kano.

However, before the operatives could engage the occupants, both the driver and his assistant reportedly fled the scene, abandoning the vehicle and its suspicious cargo.

“Their refusal to stop and explain raised further suspicion, prompting our team to seize the vehicle and move it to the command headquarters for further investigation.”

The statement added that the NSCDC FCT Commandant, Dr Olusola Odumosu has since ordered the Intelligence and Investigations Unit to look into the origin and intended destination of the items, to identify those behind the act.

“A thorough investigation shall be conducted to identify those behind this business, and anyone found culpable in this regard would be prosecuted according to what the law prescribes.”

Condemning the rising cases of infrastructure vandalism, Dr Odumosu criticized those undermining government efforts to provide essential services to the public.

He issued a stern warning to anyone involved in damaging national assets.

“To those contemplating any form of vandalism against critical infrastructure, be warned. If caught, you will be made to face the full wrath of the law,” he said.

He also had strong words for operators of pantaker (fairly used items) markets in Abuja, cautioning them against trading in stolen or vandalized public property.

“The eagle eye of this command is beaming searchlights in every nook and cranny of the territory, including the pantaker markets, and we will not spare anyone found destroying what is meant for the collective good of the citizens.”

The public has been encouraged to assist security efforts by reporting suspicious movements or acts of vandalism to the NSCDC via emergency lines: 09166229882 or 08159066244.
