Nollywood film Farmer’s Bride has made a big splash at the box office, becoming the second highest-grossing movie with a remarkable ₦37.1 million in its opening weekend.
Directed by Adebayo Tijani and Jack’enneth Opukeme, the movie also set a new record as the highest Nollywood opening weekend for an 18-rated film in 2024 and ranks as the 4th highest Nollywood opening weekend overall for the year.
This achievement was revealed through an official announcement by the film’s distributors, Filmone Entertainment.
The company shared the exciting news on social media, writing, “Farmer’s Bride has smashed box office records in its opening weekend! Thank you for making this film a massive success! If you haven’t experienced it, don’t miss out—get your tickets today! Farmer’s Bride is now showing in all cinemas nationwide.”
Set in 1980s Ibadan, Farmer’s Bride tells the story of Odun, a wealthy but lonely farmer, who marries a young bride, Funmi.
Their relationship faces challenges as Funmi becomes discontented and starts a forbidden affair with Odun’s nephew.
The consequences of their actions unravel in a tale of love, betrayal, and the supernatural.
Released in cinemas on September 27, 2024, the film features an impressive cast that includes Tobi Bakre (Gangs of Lagos), Gbubemi Ejeye (Far From Home), Femi Branch (House of Gaa), Mercy Aigbe (Ada Omo Mummy), Efe Irele (L.I.F.E), and Wumi Toriola (Aburo).
