Founder of the Foundation for Investigative Journalism (FIJ), Fisayo Soyombo, who was declared wanted by the Nigeria Police Force (NPF) has honoured the police invitation.
Soyombo, accompanied by his lawyer, Abimbola Ojenike, arrived the Force Headquarters, Louis Edet House, Abuja at about 9am on Wednesday, August 14, 2024, and went straight to the Nigeria Poice Force National Cybercrime Centre (NPF-NCC).
The investigative journalist was declared wanted by the Police over some of his exceptional and impactful reports which were considered offensive by many top government officials.
In a Facebook post made before he arrived at the cybercrime centre, he stated that if nobody heard from him, he would have been detained by the Nigeria Police
“I have just voluntarily arrived at the Nigeria Police Force National Cybercrime Centre (NPF-NCC) in Abuja based on publicly available information that I am wanted. I’m here with @fijnigeria lawyer @abimbolaojenike.
“If you haven’t heard from me by dawn, it means I have been detained, in which case, further updates will be provided by @fijnigeria.
“See you ‘soon’, whenever that is — today, tomorrow, next week, next month. Whenever.”
