Rivers Monarch calls for action against impending flood

Against the backdrop of the impending flood predicted by the Nigerian Meteorological Agency (NiMet), a traditional ruler in Rivers State, King Micah Acheseinimie-Frank has called on residents of the State to keep their surroundings clean and desilt drainages in their environment.

King Acheseinimie-Frank, who is alos the Amanyanabo of Bolo Town in Ogu-Bolo Local Government Area of Rivers State, said sanitizing the area will go a long way to cushion the impact of the impending flood predicted by NiMet.

In a chat with Kristina Reports, the Bolo Monarch called on the state and local government authorities to act fast to put measures in place to contain the flooding debacle and associated impact.

The Nigeria Meteorological Agency (NiMet) has predicted that 2019 will experience intensive rains and about 12 State across the country including Rivers State will be affected by heavy flooding.

Already, the State has been inundated by heavy rains most of the year with parts of the State experiencing intractable flooding.

Obi Wali Road, Rumuigbo, Port Harcourt

Port Harcourt, the State capital, has had its fair share of the flooding. Rumuigbo, Rumuagholu, Iwofe, Aker Base, Ikwerre Road, Bundu, Nkpogu, and Elelenwo, among others are heavily flooded whenever it rains.

Abua/Odual, Ahoada-West, Bonny, Degema, Etche, Okrika, Omuma, Oyigbo, among others have challenges with flooding already with residents of those LGAs calling on the authorities to take action on addressing the flooding challenge.

Chairman, Ogu-Bolo LGA, Victor Erasmus

Following the continuous rain fall in the state, the Amanyanabo of Bolo Town urged the Chairman of Ogu/Bolo Local Government Area, Victor Erasmus, and his team to work with relevant stakeholders and opinion leaders in the area to bring lasting solution to flood issues bedeviling the area.
