In a proactive move to arrest flooding in his local government area and his people from its inherent harrowing effects, Emohua LGA Chairman, Dr Chidi Lloyd has constituted an Emergency Management Committee.

Recall that the Nigeria Meteorological Agency (NiMET), in its forecast published in January, stated that 2023 would witness early onset of rainfall accompanied by flooding.

NiMET identified Akwa Ibom, Bayelsa and Rivers States as coastal areas in the South-South, that will, particularly, experience torrential rains.

While the inauguration of the committee, Dr Lloyd charged them with the task of identifying parts of the local government area that may be susceptible to flooding.

A press statement by the Chief Press Secretary to the Emohua LGA Chairman, Bright Jossy-Elendu on Thursday, June 29, 2023, informed that the committee will sensitize residents of the area ahead of any imminent flood as predicted by NiMet.

The statement further informed that the committee will also work out modalities to mitigate the aftermath of any impending flood disaster on the residents of Emohua LGA.

Among those appointed is the Executive Assistant on Special Duties to the LG Chairman, Peter Wogbo, as Chairman of the committee. Others include Oliver Amah, Secretary, Bright Jossy-Elendu, John Douglas, Johnson Enyindah, Hannah Odike, Zeruwa Imo, representing Ward 8, Vincent Wuzor, representing Ward 7, and Uzuobor Oha, representing Ward 10.

Also appointed were CDC Chairman of Agba-Rundele, CDC Chairman of Rumuekpe, Divisional Police Officer (DPO), Rumuji, representatives of the Nigerian Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), Department of State Services (DSS), and Nigerian Army.

Emohua LGA is one of the area in Rivers State deemed susceptible to flooding as the torrential rainfall builds up in 2023, hence the proactive move by the LGA Chairman to emplace contingency measures to safeguard the lives and properties of his people.
