Nigerian Athletics Sensation, Tobi Amusan was on Friday, June 28, 2024, cleared of any anti-doping rule violations by the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS).

Tobi Amusan expressed her gratitude to God via her Instagram page after receiving the news of her freedom. She wrote: “…it’s ALL GOD❕ 🙇🏾‍♀️Oluwa E Tobi Loba 🙏🏾”

The 27-year-old World 100m hurdles record holder was webbed in a reputation-soiling controversy after she was charged with missing three anti-doping tests in 12 months in July 2023.

She was then cleared of the offence by the Disciplinary Tribunal of the sport’s governing body, World Athletics and was allowed to compete in the World Athletics Championships in Budapest, Hungary in August.

However, Amusan still had to look over her shoulder due to the Athletics Integrity Unit’s Head, Brett Clothier’s decision to review and the decision eventually being appealed to the Court of Arbitration for Sport.

With the World Athletics’ anti-doping rules stating that any athlete who fails to ascertain their whereabouts for a doping test on three occasions over 12 months would be ineligible to compete for two years, Amusan’s chances of competing in the Olympics and for an entire two years rested on CAS’s verdict.

To her relief and that of the entire nation, CAS said in a statement that its panel “unanimously acknowledged that the athlete committed two filing failures but did not confirm the existence of a missed test, alleged by WA and WADA, which would have been the third Whereabouts Failure committed within 12 months.”

CAS also stated that Tobi Amusan did not violate Rule 2.4 of the WA Anti-Doping Rules (WA ADR) and as such no period of ineligibility should be imposed on her.

This implies that “Tobi Express” as she is fondly known is now fully clear to race in the Paris Olympics which is slated to take place from Friday, July 26, 2024, to Sunday, August 11, 2024.
