In a ferocious display of pace and doggedness, Tobi Amusan dubbed Tobi Express, raced past her opponents to a time of 12.40s in the Jamaica Athletics Invitational in Kingston on Sunday, May 12, 2024.
World record holder Tobi Amusan, became the fastest woman in the women’s 100m hurdles this year after the race which saw her win ahead of Jamaican and world champion, Danielle Williams.
Tobi Amusan had previously lost her world women’s 100m hurdles crown to Jamaica’s Danielle Williams in a shock win at the World Championships in Budapest, Hungary back in August 2023. After the loss, Amusan promised that she would be back stronger and the hurdle queen delivered on her promise.
Interestingly, Amusan was behind reigning world champion Williams and America’s Nia Ali but surged forward in the closing stages, beating the previous world-leading time of 12.42s set by Tonea Marshall of the USA on April 20.
Williams finished second in 12.46s seconds, with Christina Clemens of the USA taking third place in 12.54s.
