Rivers United Technical Manager, Stanley Eguma, made bold by insisting his side has everything at their disposal to win big, despite the pedigree of the opposition, USM Alger, on Sunday, March 31, 2024, in the first leg of the quarter-final in the CAF Confederation Cup.
The Rivers United Gaffer reiterated on several occasions, the difficulty of the task, but believes that his side can come out victorious on home turf and make the second leg a formality.
“That’s our plan and ambition. It’s our home and fortress and we have everything at our disposal to make a bold statement. To make a statement by winning well, winning big, that’s our plan. We know it’s going to be difficult but we are equal to the task. “
“We know that whatever good result we get here will help us in the second leg. We want to see that we convert our chances which we will definitely create and get the needed goals and then go to Algers and make the second leg a formality.
“I know it’s an uphill task but it is very surmountable and with the calibre of team we have and the motivation in the team, we are ready.
“We thank the management and the sponsors of the team for all their efforts so far. Getting to this stage is not easy but we know that we are equal to the task.”
The gaffer further revealed that he is not in the dark about the experience, exposure and strength of the opposition, adding that his side would unleash their tactical plans.
“The USM team is a very strong team, they are the defending champions and the cup holder and I think it’s a big clash. The team is ready, we have patterned our strategies, we have our tactical plans and I think that on Sunday we will unleash them.
“We have respect for our opponents because we know they are more exposed and more experienced but I think with what we have, we have to make sure that we give our best to see that we raise the name of the country Nigeria. We cannot come to anything less than that. We are ready.
