Members of the 10th Nigerian Senate are en route to Akwa Ibom State for a four-day retreat billed to hold at the Four Points by Sheraton Hotel in Ikot Ekpene Local Government Area of the State on Thursday, 19th October 2023.
President of the Senate, Godswill Akpabio, who is an indigene of Akwa Ibom State disclosed this on Wednesday, October 18, 2023 shortly after meeting with President Bola Tinubu at the Presidential Villa in Abuja.
He told newsmen that he visited to intimate the President on the plan to travel and the reason for the retreat.
“I came to inform the President of the first 10th Assembly retreat which is taking place in Akwa Ibom State and also to solicit his support towards ensuring representation at the retreat and he has graciously done that.”
“I told him about some of the things we were going to discuss including tax reforms and ways of ensuring the generation of revenue for him to work for Nigerians.”
The Senate President assured Nigerians that there is no cause for alarm concerning the conflicts in the Senate, saying that it is normal for disagreements to abound in the Senate but that it is under control and will be resolved amicably.
“We are all working in one accord. There is no problem at all, even if there are disagreements in the senate, still it is the majority decision that will prevail.”
“Parliament is like that, but we will never get to the point of throwing chairs. The sense is full of mature people that will not go to that extent. So if we have a disagreement, we quickly go into a closed session, resolve it and come out smiling. We are politicians, no permanent enemy but permanent interest.”
“That interest is the interest of the nation; to support the President, support his administration in legislation, oversight functions, to help him succeed in order to move the country forward and that is what we have been doing, that is what we are committed to do.”
The retreat will last from today, Thursday, October 19 2023 to Sunday, October 22, 2023.
