Rivers United locked horns with Remo Stars of Ikenne, home at the Adokiye Amiesimaka Stadium on Thursday, October 12, 2023, in search of their first win of the season and they got the win, a clean sheet and a screamer from Andy Okpe.

The Pride of Rivers got a 2-0 victory over the Sky Blue Stars courtesy of goals from Alex Oyowah and new buy Andy Okpe.

Alex Oyowah converted from the spot in the 13th minute and Andy Okpe slotted it the ball for 25 yards out in the 90th minute.

There was little or nothing to show for the first half from both sides but Alex Oyawah’s penalty goal was the difference. The Penalty was awarded after Remo Stars handled the ball in the 18-yard box.

The second half saw a more feisty encounter as the visitors grew into the game, dominating and dictating play. Remo Stars had several opportunities to go ahead but could not convert their chances.

Despite their good ball recovery and keeping things tight at the back, Former Remo Stars Player, Andy Okpe, found an opportunity and he slotted in the ball from range, scoring an absolute screamer to give Rivers United the second goal, destroying all hope for the visitors.

Having fallen to defeat at the hands of Niger Tornadoes in Kaduna over the weekend, Rivers United were eager to get their season back on track.

The Pride of Rivers would now look ahead to their next fixture against Kwara United and hope to get a second consecutive victory at home.
