The Nigerian component of ExxonMobil, better known as Mobil Producing Nigeria Unlimited MPN, has been commended for its positive disposition to impact its host communities with special focus on healthcare delivery.
The Chief and Head of Buoye Omuso Brown Major House (BOBH) and Amadabo of Finima, Aseme Alabo Dagogo Lambert Brown, Kongo XVII gave this commendation on Friday, January 13, 2023 when officials of the Petroleum and Natural Gas Senior Staff Association of Nigeria (PENGASSAN) led by its Auditor, Bethel Banigo paid him a courtesy visit at his palace in Finima.
The PENGASSAN officials also presented an ambulance they donated to the Finima Health Centre, which according to them was amplify the operational capabilities of the health centre to render qualitative health care services to the people of Finima.
“We appreciate the thoughts you have for Finima; we appreciate that you always carry Finima along as hosts of ExxonMobil, please keep the spirit on.”
“What you are doing is in line with the legacy PENGASSAN has set over the years. You should keep the heritage and transmit it from generation to generation.”
The traditional ruler used the occasion to harp on the need for reflection, empathy and kindness in human interactions, stressing that this was necessary given the fact that human beings have been divested of the power to know what the future holds, noting that God had reserved such omniscience exclusively for himself.
“One thing God has done is nobody knows tomorrow. Tomorrow is important because it is unknown. This puts us in a situation to be careful. Tomorrow has so much in store for us all but we need to understand that what we do today will affect us tomorrow. We need to be kind to one another and to our community.”
He expressed the hope that the Finima Health Centre will maximize use of ambulance donated by PENGASSAN, while commending Mobil Producing Nigeria Limited (MPN) for improving the standard of the Health Centre in lieu of its upgrade to a cottage hospital.
Aseme Alabo Brown, however, urged MPN to do more by collaborating with Finima Community to actualize the upgrade of the Finima Health Centre to a cottage hospital, asserting that all necessary regulatory compliance requirements should be addressed to realize this expectation for the benefit of Finima Community.
Earlier, the Auditor of PENGASSAN, Mobil Producing Nigeria Limited (MPN) Branch Bonny, Bethel Banigo had told the BOBH Chief and Head that his association was pleased to support health care delivery in Finima and other communities, saying that this was the motivation behind the donation of the ambulance.
Also speaking, the Medical Director of the Finima Health Centre, Dr. Nekabari Dambere assured the Amadabo of Finima that the ambulance would be judiciously utilized, expressing optimism that the operational challenges of the centre would be addressed with it with a view to saving lives.
In attendance during the courtesy visit were a member of the Council of Wari-Alapu of BOBH, Aseme Wari-Alabo Vincent Brown, who is also the Head of Papanye Family Unit in BOBH, a former Chairman of the Bonny Integrated Recruitment Centre (BIRC), Aladiokuma Hart, a former Chairman of the Finima Youth Congress (FYC), Charles Brown, and Woman Leader of BOBH, Victoria Brown, amongst others.
Banigo and his colleagues later visited the Bonny National Grammar School (BNGS) where they handed over about 250 desks for the use of students to the Zonal Director, Rivers State Senior Secondary Schools Board, Bonny Zone, Edward Kiri stated that the good gesture by PENGASSAN MPN Branch Bonny was a demonstration of their large heart and predisposition to support education.
He expressed optimism that the desks would ease the stress of students who have had to improvise to have their lectures, thanking them for the donation while appealing for more gestures like that, adding that teaching aids and other facilities were needed to ease the burden of teaching on the part of the teachers.
