Jubilation in Ngo as Supreme Court Affirms Royal Family’s Ownership Rights

Ngo Town, headquarters of Andoni Local Government Area of Rivers State erupted in jubilation with its streets flooded by residents who trooped out singing and dancing as news of the decision of the Supreme Court on the ownership of Ngo land and right to the stool of Okaan-Ama Ngo filtered in.

Though details of the decision of the apex court were still sketchy as at the time of this report, Kristina Reports reliably learnt that the 50 years old tussle over who owns the land of Ngo and right to the stool of Okaan-Ama Ngo was put to rest by the apex court’s verdict on Friday, January 6, 2023 in Abuja.

Checks by Kristina Reports indicate that the learned justices of the Supreme Court affirmed that the Uwuile Royal House is the sole repository of the Okaan-Ama stool of Ngo Town.

Knowledgeable sources told Kristina Reports that the legal tussle was between the Uwuile and Egwe Oke royal families both of Ngo Town and that the case had traveled from the High Court in Port Harcourt through the Court of Appeal sitting in Port Harcourt and now ended at the Supreme Court.

Reacting to the apex court’s judgment, the Okaan-Ama of Ngo, His Majesty, King Job Williams Okuruket, Nnabiget XIV, in a statement on his verified Facebook page, expressed appreciation to the honourable Justices of the Supreme Court of Nigeria for “upholding the verdict of the Appeal Court sitting in Port Harcourt which granted us all our six prayers”.

The traditional ruler called on “all and sundry to embrace peace and be rest assured that we will lead Ngo Town in unity without segregation or any form of sentiments,” adding that “we will push for our growth and development as a land with abundant human and material resources”.

Kristina Reports was reliably informed that His Majesty, King Okuruket was installed as Chief of the Uwuile Royal Family in 1975 at the age of 25 years and later crowned as the Okaan-Ama Ngo on Saturday, January 8, 1977 in Ngo Town.

Efforts by Kristina Reports to get the reaction of the Egwe Oke Royal House on the verdict of the Supreme Court proved yet abortive as at the time of this report.
