Rivers State Commissioner of Police Friday Eboka has declared that there shall be no hiding place for criminals in the State.
This is coming on the heels of massive crime bursting exploits of operatives of the Rivers State Command of the Nigeria Police Force (NPF) in the month of July 2022.
In a statement by the Public Relations Officer of the Command, Grace Iringe-Koko, a Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP), the State Police boss assured of “the commitment of the Police to the safety and security of all law-abiding residents in the State,” asserting that “the momentum in the fight against crimes, criminality and other vices would be sustained for a safer Rivers State”.
According to the statement, which highlighted the bullish drive of the Command to stamp out crime and criminality in the State, seven suspected criminals comprising a two-man armed robbery gang, three-man car snatching syndicate, and two burglars were apprehended by operatives of the Command in different parts of the State.
The statement disclosed that operatives of C4i Intelligence Unit of the Command arrested “one Saviour Gbarale, male, aged 24 years, and Onyedikachi Uhala, male, aged 18 years, at No. 12 Etche Street Borikiri, Port Harcourt City Local Government Area b”.
“The suspects specialize in house breaking and have been linked to series of recent armed robberies in the Port Harcourt metropolis and environs. Investigations also revealed that the suspects also raped and sexually abused a pregnant woman in the cause of their nefarious operations.”
In another development, the Police said “on July 24th, 2022, Operatives of C4i Intelligence Unit, while on routine anti-crime patrol along Eleme Road junction, ran into a gang of armed robbers”.
“The Police operatives engaged the hoodlums in gun duel. The duo were subdued by Police superior firepower. One Victor Okona, male, aged 23 years, and one Onuoha John Odinaka, aka Precious, male, aged 22 years old of Farm Road, Eleme junction were arrested while others escaped with various degrees of injuries.”
“One American Revolver pistol with breech no. 134581 and one motorbike with Reg/No BGM 74VL were recovered from the suspects, effort being intensified to arrest others at large.”
The State PPRO further informed that three members of a car snatching syndicate in the State have also been arrested following a recent complaint of car snatching at the Sani Abacha Division, Port Harcourt.
She revealed that one Gladstone Anderson, male, aged 22 years, Emmanuel Hezekiah, male, aged 26 years, and Chika Obiorah, male, aged 29 years were arrested along Amaechi Drive in Obio/Akpor LGA.
“On interrogation, the suspects were found to be members of a notorious syndicate that specializes in snatching cars from innocent victims particularly Bolt/Uber drivers in and around Sani Abacha/Casablanca area.”
“They use jack knife to threaten the victims and rope to strangled their victims in case of any resistance. One Toyota Corolla saloon car, Reg/No. AAH 382 RM, ash color was recovered from them. Effort is being intensified to arrest other members of the gang.”
