It has come to our notice that Bonny Local Content Compliance Committee (BKLCCC), an agency of Bonny Traditional Institution, in a press release came up with some resolutions after a purported meeting It held with Saipem, Chiyoda and Daewoo Joint Venture (SCD JV) and Nigeria LNG Ltd on Wednesday, 11th May 2022 at Port Harcourt and therefrom made certain demands on SCD JV and Nigeria LNG Ltd.
The people of Buoye Omuso Brown Major House (Duawari), founders and owners of Finima Community as LANDLORD and HOST to Nigeria LNG Ltd and its sub-contractors including SCD JV, its Train 7 EPC Contractor, do hereby completely and unequivocally DISSOCIATE itself from the purported resolutions and press statements issued by BKLCCC on the 11th of May 2022 and state as follows:
- That Buoye Omuso Brown Major House (Duawari), as founders and owners of Finima Community and therefore LANDLORD and HOST to Nigeria LNG Ltd and its sub-contractors including SCD JV, its Train 7 EPC Contractor, has not mandated BKLCCC or any other party as a matter of fact, to attend meetings, speak or issue press statement on its behalf and therefore the purported meeting with Nigeria LNG Ltd and SCD JV and the resultant press statement, to the extent they purport it to relate, concern and affect the people of Buoye Omuso Brown Major House of Finima and Finima Community in general is null and void and of no effect, relevance and concern to us as Finima people.
- That by the provisions of the NOGICD Act and the Community Content Guidelines (CCG) any community in Bonny Local Government Area impacted by the activities of Nigeria LNG Ltd and its sub-contractors including SCD JV, its Train 7 EPC Contractor deserve the right to the extent that it is impacted meet, speak or issue Press Statement for itself but do not and cannot have such right or mandate to interlope and or usurp the mandate, right, power and authority of the people of Buoye Omuso Brown Major House and Finima Community, the LANDLORD and HOST to Nigeria LNG Ltd and its sub-contractors including SCD JV, its Train 7 EPC Contractor.
- Following from the above, therefore, whatever meetings held and resolutions reached between BKLCCC, Nigeria LNG Ltd and SCD JV suggestive or representing to include Buoye Omuso Brown Major House and Finima Community is null and void and of no effect and therefore is not binding on the people of Buoye Omuso Brown Major House and Finima Community. This much has been communicated to BKLCCC, Nigeria LNG Ltd and SCD JV and is hereat reiterated that BKLCCC and or any other authority in Bonny Local Government Area do not have the right, mandate and authority to represent Buoye Omuso Brown Major House and Finima Community concerning or relating to its landed property, inheritance and the rights and privileges accruing therefrom.
- That Buoye Omuso Brown Major House of Finima and Finima Community as LANDLORD and HOST to Nigeria LNG Ltd and its sub-contractors including SCD IV, Its Train 7 EPC Contractor is neither aware of any MOU nor have signed any MOU with Nigeria LNG Ltd and or SCD IV and therefore any such MOU purportedly negotiated, agreed on and signed and suggesting or representing to affect or include Buoye Omuso Brown Major House of Finima and Finima Community is to the extent of such suggestion and or representation, null and void and of no binding effect or force whatsoever on Buoye Omuso Brown Major House of Finima and Finima Community in general.
- That any monitoring team, committee, agency or by whatever name it is called set up by any traditional institution or any other institution in Bonny Local Government Area as a result of the said purported MOU suggesting or representing to affect or include Buoye Omuso Brown Major House of Finima and Finima Community is to the extent of such suggestion and or representation null and void and of no binding effect or force whatsoever on Buoye Omuso Brown Major House of Finima and Finima Community in general.
- That while we are appalled by the Nigeria LNG Ltd, the Nigeria LNG T7 team and SCD JV, the T7 EPC contractor for the marginalization, mistreatment, biased employment against Finima people and the rest of Bonny and poor salary structure, which was part of the reasons for the agitation and peaceful protest and demonstration by the people of Buoye Omuso Brown Major House of Finima and Finima Community at the IA gate of Nigeria LNG Ltd premises on 10th June, 2021 and for which hoodlums, miscreants and cultists sponsored by the traditional institution in Bonny Kingdom, her agency and ably supported by the Bonny Youths Federation (BYF), who brutally attacked our people with guns, machetes, clubs and other dangerous weapons, injured unarmed Finima people who were protesting peacefully and destroyed properties worth millions of Naira of the people of Finima and her tenants.
- That while the leadership and relevant committees of Buoye Omuso Brown Major House of Finima and Finima Community are doing everything within the ambit of its sphere of authority to engage the Nigeria LNG Ltd and SCD JV, its T7 EPC contractor to reach an amicable resolution and reduce same into a mutually agreed and beneficial MOU, Buoye Omuso Brown Major House of Finima and Finima Community, wish to use this medium to inform Nigeria LNG Ltd, SCD JV, security agencies and the general public again that the people of Buoye Omuso Brown Major House of Finima and Finima Community have no relationship and or have nothing to do with the purportedly signed MOU, if any, between SCD JV and BKLCCC and therefore the people of Buoye Omuso Brown Major House of Finima and Finima Community shall not adhere to, take instructions or accept whatever order or orders emanating from BKLCCC or their principal in relation to or as regards agreements decisions and or resolutions reached as a result of the purportedly signed MOU between SCD JV and BKLCCC. At the appropriate time the leadership of Buoye Omuso Brown Major House a Finima and Finima Community shall sign a mutually beneficial MOU with Nigeria LNG Ltd and its sub-contractors including SCD JV, its Train 7 EPC Contractor.
- The leadership of Buoye Omuso Brown Major House of Finima and Finima Community in general aligns itself in solidarity with the Workers’ Union for firmly insisting on justice, equity, fairness and fair play in demanding for equitable wages and remuneration for T7 workers, taking into consideration the peculiarity of Finima and Bonny Kingdom in general. As peace loving people we enjoin the contending parties to dialogue to reach a mutually beneficial resolution of the T7 workers’ wages/salaries impasse in order not to allow the situation to degenerate into chaos and breach the existing fragile peace on the island.
- The leadership of Buoye Omuso Brown Major House of Finima and Finima Community calls on SCD JV to create the atmosphere for regular interaction and synergy with Finima Community of its company’s plans and programs to help engender proactive community awareness and peaceful coexistence in company and community relations. Finima Community assures of willingness to partner with your management to ensure industrial harmony and peaceful coexistence provided your management allows justice, equity, fairness and fair play to reign in our relationship. The leadership of Buoye Omuso Brown Major House uses this opportunity to call on Saipem to urgently and proactively set the stage for the review of the existing agreement between them and Finima Community.
- The leadership of Buoye Omuso Brown Major House of Finima and Finima Community equally commends the various security agencies for the wonderful roles they are playing to ensure that the existing peace in Finima and Bonny Local Government Area in general is sustained and enhanced for the development of Finima Community and Bonny Local Government Area in general.
- And that the people of Finima Community shall go about their normal course of employment and business except the companies chose to close their gates and that the leadership and relevant agencies and committees of Buoye Omuso Brown Major House of Finima and Finima Community shall ensure peace and normalcy in Finima Community and expect that the security agencies shall protect the peaceful workers and business people who will be willing to go about their normal work and business against the trouble makers in the event of any action or activity to disrupt corporate operations in order to avoid the use of self-help as a means of protecting lives and property in Finima Community.
