Premier League side, Tottenham Hotspur has officially confirmed the signing of centre-back, Cristian Romero, from Atalanta, the club said in a statement, Thursday, August 6, 2021, on its official website ahead of the 2021/2022 season.
The contract sum, according to the statement is €55million, an equivalent of N26,614,300,000, and will subsist for five years.
The 23 year old Argentine, who joined Atalanta on loan on September 5, 2020, will now play for Tottenham Hotspur wearing the number 4 jersey formerly worn by Toby Alderweireld.
Cristian Romero was named as Best Defender in the Serie A last season, playing an integral role in getting Atalanta to a third successive third place league finish.
He was also a part of Argentina squad that won the Copa America in July, 2021.
Reacting to the development in a video on his official social media platform, Romero said, “I am very happy to be wearing this shirt and to come to this club.”
“I want to thank the fans for all the messages, you wanted me here and here I am, now I will respond and repay the faith that the club is showing in me and I am ready to start and give everything for this shirt”.
