As the Federal Government sponsored Bonny-Bodo Road project assumes a progressive dimension around the residential axes of Bonny Island, the Bonny Utility Company (BUC) have assured that it is optimising best practices to ensure the safety of residents while relocating strategic electrical assets in the affected areas.
The company said utilities such as pillars, high tension wires, armoured cables, and transformers, among others were being relocated along the Bonny-Bodo Road Right of Way.
General Manager of the BUC, Hafis Ismaila gave this indication in a telephone chat with Kristina Reports in Bonny on Wednesday, May 5, 2021, in response to an enquiry on the recent power outages.
He stated that the safety of everyone involved directly or otherwise was critical to the operations of the company.
“The activity is being carried out in phases for safety of people, personnel involved and without prolong outage in the community.”
The company, therefore, appealed for understanding from residents of Bonny Island as the project would soon be completed, stressing that the situation would soon be stabilized.
The BUC, in conjunction with Riviera Technical Services Limited, has been working on the ongoing relocation project on the right of way for the construction work on the Bonny-Bodo Road to commence fully from the Bonny axis.
The areas covered are from the Shell gate area through the King Perekule (New) Road and the New Finima Road down to the Workers’ Camp area.
A source within the company who preferred anonymity, said it is expected that residents and commuters plying the affected areas would strictly obey the safety signs and adhere to measures that were being deployed around the project site as a way of contributing their own quota in achieving the hazard-free completion goal, as envisaged by the job hazard analysis.
