The authorities in Bonny Local Government Area have debunked the insinuation earlier Friday, October 23, 2020 that somebody died of stab wounds in the township area of Bonny Island.
Divisional Police Officer (DPO) of Bonny Division, CSP Shua’ib Achigili, in a telephone chat with Kristina Reports dismissed the rumour as fake, assuring that the security situation in the area was under control.
“There is no problem there, none at all. They did not also come to the police station. Disregard it, please.”
Youth leader of the Township area, Abomie Hart told Kristina Reports that no such incident happened, clarifying that information at his disposal was that a misunderstanding happened between two young people that resulted in minor injury and which has been treated in a local pharmacy.
“Nothing like that happened, nobody was killed. The information we have is sketchy, just two young people have small misunderstanding which resulted in injury and which has been treated in a pharmacy.”
“I have been receiving calls from various security heads and also the palace CSO, and I have told them nothing of such happened. It’s unfortunate that people will be carrying fake news.”
An indigene of the area believed to be the son of one of a late Chief and Head of one of the chieftaincy houses in Bonny Kingdom (names withheld) had made a post early Friday morning that someone died of stab injuries in the Hausa quarters area of Bonny.
The information raised tensions across the LGA as residents of the area were still apprehensive over the sad fallouts of the #EndSARS protests which has sparked widespread crisis across different cities in the country.
