School building collapses in Lagos, no human casualties recorded

A three-storey building belonging to Excel College at No.15, Ansarudeen, Ile-Epo Bus Stop, Iyana Ejigbo, Lagos State collapsed this morning at about 8:15 am but no lives were lost.

This happened almost 48 hours before the reopening of schools for academic activities in the state.

According to the Lagos State Emergency Management Agency (LASEMA), the collapsed building is a part of an attached three-storey building in the area.

The cause of collapse according to the authority was attributed to “visible distress” adding that the collapse it has seriously affected the second part of the attaché building with visible cracks and, also affecting its decking.

However, officials of the school had claimed that the building had before now shown signs of distress adding that they were planning to renovate and revive the building before it was collapsed.

Meanwhile, officials of LASEMA has hinted that bringing down the entire structure might begin in a matter adding that more physical examinations would be carried out.
