COVID-19: Bonny LG Chairman goes tough on compliance to protocols

Chairman of Bonny Local Government Area, David Irimagha has warned residents of the area to comply with established protocols for checkmating the spread of the COVID-19 pandemic for their own wellbeing.

Irimagha issued this warning today after accompanying the Rivers State Commissioner for Health, Professor Princewill Chike to inspect facilities at the Bonny Isolation Centre located inside the premises of the General Hospital, Bonny.

He said his administration was doing all within its power to safeguard the health and wellbeing of the people of the area, calling on the citizens to take responsibility for their own safety in the face of the global pandemic.

The Bonny LG boss reiterated the commitment of his administration to discharge its constitutional responsibility of protecting of lives and property of the citizens, regretting that ignorance was a challenge in the fight against the coronavirus menace.

He appealed to the people of the area to observe laid down guidelines for safeguarding themselves from being infected with the coronavirus, assuring that the Rivers State Government led by Governor Nyesom Wike and his administration were working in synergy to ensure that the people of the area were safe.

Chairman of the COVID-19 Taskforce in Bonny LGA, Jossy Banigo announced that the illegal market at the Gen. Kurubo Avenue by New Road adjacent to the Assemblies of God Church would be shut down tomorrow, same as the defaulting bars and restaurants that open late in the night.

Also speaking, Secretary of the taskforce, Bright Hart stated that the taskforce was resolute in its determination to deliver on the assignment given to it by the State Governor, Nyesom Wike and would not condone any acts of disobedience with regards to the observance of the COVID-19 protocols. 

Bonny LGA last week recorded its COVID-19 index cases and officials of the state Ministry of Health and the national Centre for Disease Control (NCDC) were already on ground to carry out tracking and contact tracing on the recorded positive cases.
