Orupiri Community in Bonny Local Government Area of Rivers State has commended the Nigeria Liquefied Natural Gas (NLNG) Limited for its magnanimous gesture demonstrated in the disbursement of palliatives to its host communities, which it also benefitted from.
Chairman of Orupiri Development Forum (ODF), Dennis Apiafi Jumbo gave this commendation in a chat with Kristina Reports at Orupiri Community where the palliatives given to the community were distributed to community members.
Jumbo also praised the Chairman, Wari-Alabo Sodienye Jumbo, and other members of the Elders’ Council of Jumbo Major House, and the Amanyanabo of Grand Bonny Kingdom, His Majesty, King Edward William Dappa Pepple III, CON, Perekule XI, for the prudent management of the palliatives and ensuring that every chieftaincy house benefitted from the largesse.
The Nigeria LNG, in its bid to cushion the harsh effects of the restrictions on human and vehicular movement and business activities and the consequential downturn in the economy, distributed palliatives including rice, beans, garri, noodles, vegetable oil, and other condiments to its host communities, including Bonny LGA.
The Jumbo Major House, under the leadership of the Chairman of the house’s Elders’ Council, Wari-Alabo Sodienye Jumbo, received and distributed the palliatives to the various burusu (sub houses) that make up the Jumbo Major House.
Orupiri Community is populated by the Ibinyesiari Burusu (sub house), who are descendants of the late Apiafi Jumbo, a nephew of the long deceased founder of the house, Ibinyesiari Jumbo.
The ODF Chairman explained that the Nigeria LNG has shown thoughtfulness and empathy in the face of the hardship facing the people of the area during the lockdown occasioned by the COVID-19 pandemic.
According to him, the palliative will go a long way to assuage the sufferings of the people, calling on other multinationals to emulate the good gesture of the Nigeria LNG by also making interventions in their host communities in these trying times.
Woman Leader of the community, Juliet Jumbo said the lives of the women have been positively impacted by the palliatives provided by the Nigeria LNG, noting that this was a demonstration of good relationship between the company and its host communities.
She expressed the optimism that the palliatives will be properly utilized by the beneficiaries to sustain themselves through the period.
Also speaking, acting Youth Leader of the community, Nengi Jumbo thanked the Nigeria LNG for the noble gesture, saying that the youths of the community appreciate their timely intervention, urging other oil and gas companies to emulate the example of the company.
