World Environment Day: Evomec Targets 60% Reduction in Single-Use Plastics on Project Sites

In line with this year’s theme for the World Environment Day, ‘Beat Plastic Pollution’, Evomec Global Services Limited (EGSL) says it is working to reduce by 60% in single-use plastic waste around its project sites and facilities.

Managing Director of EGSL, Peter Esievo, who said this in commemoration of the 2023 World Environment Day 2023, stated that the preservation of Mother Earth was a collective responsibility by all stakeholders, stressing that Evomec was effectively playing its part in this regard.

Represented by EGSL’s Health, Safety and Environment (HSE) Manager, Projects, Talent Jumbo, the Evomec Chief Executive Officer disclosed that the company is committed to contributing to the global fight for plastic waste reduction, thus it was introducing state of the art water igloo, dispensers and other gadgets to upscale access portable drinking water for its workers.

“As part of our year 2023 HSE objectives to ensure 60% reduction in single-use plastic waste on site, management is committed by ensuring provision of state of the art water igloo, dispensers and personal portable water bottles to enable workers have unlimited access to drinking water at all times.”

“These will drastically reduce the amount of bottle water used on site thereby contributing immensely to the global fight for plastic waste reduction.”

He further pointed out that the 2023 theme ‘Beat Plastic Pollution’, was a wake-up call for concerted actions to ensure the protection of the environment by halting the increase in amount of plastics in circulation, stressing that this was the mitigation option open to the global community as at now.

EGSL has always asserted that, as a responsible corporate citizen, its corporate policy posture incorporates intentionality in managing its procurement processes and waste management procedures in order to avoid being part of the plastic pollution ravaging the earth.

It acknowledges the negative impact that improperly disposed plastic wastes could have on the environment, as such continues to be deliberate in ensuring that plastic wastes around its facilities and project sites are well managed.  

He asserted that EGSL will continue to emplace operational strategies and management principles that ensure that the environment is protected, stressing that the general outlay of the company’s activities is anchored on its compassion for the environment.

Chief Esievo surmised that there was the need for a multi-stakeholder approach to managing the environment, urging other corporate entities to work together with the relevant regulatory agencies charged with the responsibility of safeguarding the environment to do more to protect the environment.
