Rivers State Governor, Siminalayi Fubara has faulted the attempt to impeach him by the Rivers State House of Assembly.

He stated this on Monday, October 30, 2023 at the State Assembly Complex along Moscow Road, Port Harcourt, when he went to inspect the state of things after the fire incident that razed the legislative chamber last night.

Earlier, while addressing scores of protesters who gathered in front of the Government House in Port Harcourt on Monday morning, the Governor demanded reason for his impeachment.

Fubara also accused security agencies of firing shots at him while on his way to the Rivers State House of Assembly Complex following news that it was set on fire last night.

He condemned the fire that was set on the building and called for calm.

Meanwhile, the Rivers State House of Assembly had issued a notice of impeachment against the Governor early on Monday morning.

24 members of the Assembly endorsed the notice which was issued during a plenary session at the auditorium of the burnt complex presided over by the Speaker of the Assembly, Martins Amaewhule.

The motion for impeachment was moved by the member representing Omuma Constituency, Sylvanus Nwankwo, and signed by 24 members of the House.
