The Nigeria Police Force (NPF) says it is on the trail of the alleged killer of a breastfeeding mother in Ayambo Community in Bonny Local Government Area.
Divisional Police Officer of Bonny Division, James Ekpeta, a Chief Superintendent of Police (CSP), disclosed this to Kristina Reports in a telephone chat on Sunday, May 16, 2021 in Bonny.
According to him, the case of alleged murder of a young woman named Chioma by her lover, popularly known as “Money-making machine” or “Money in the bank” in Ayambo Community, was under investigation by the Police.
Curiously, he revealed that the corpse of the alleged victim was yet to be seen and the suspect at large, asserting that the police was on his trail and would soon apprehend him and bring him to assist the police in their investigation of the matter.
A reliable source, who pleaded anonymity, also disclosed to Kristina Reports that “the girl in question, Chioma, who lives in Ayambo Community with her baby father, was constantly abused by her so-called baby father that goes by the name “Money making machine”, but he has no money, though.”
“She is a breastfeeding mother of a month and three weeks baby. On that fateful day, the guy beat her up as usual, unfortunately, for him she passed out.”
The source further revealed that the Senior Pastor of Good Shepherd Ministries, Pastor Sebastine Benstowe was handling the matter in conjunction with the Nigeria Police Force.
“Yeah, the police force is aware and Pastor Sebastine Benstowe is on top of the matter as we speak.”
When contacted, Pastor Benstowe agreed to provide more details when our reporter meets with him.
He, however, revealed on his verified Facebook wall that the landlady of the fleeing suspect was arrested by the police in the course of their investigation after he alerted the police of the incident.
In the same Facebook post, the popular cleric called on the Chairman of Bonny LGA, David Irimagha, the lawmaker representing Bonny Constituency in the Rivers State House of Assembly, Abinye Pepple, among other officials to act to bring the suspect to justice.
Incidences of domestic violence has assumed a worrisome dimension in recent times with the statistics of fatalities escalating by the day. This has led to government at all levels entrenching legal frameworks that criminalize gender-based domestic violence.
Another dimension to the imbroglio is the traditional implications of the incident as knowledgeable sources within Ayambo Community say in Bonny native custom and tradition, a man who murders a lactating mother has desecrated the land and must perform certain rituals to cleanse the land of the curse inherent in the action.
Kristina Reports was unable to confirm this from the traditional institution in Bonny Kingdom as at the time of this report as even the Community Chairman of Ayambo Community, Godswill Jumbo, was unavailable for comments on the issue.
