He further stated that this year’s International Workers Day is exceptional as it marks the amplification of efforts by WAMASON, working in concert with the Nigerian Environmental Society (NES), to ensure the passage of the bill to establish the Institute of Environmental Practitioners of Nigeria (IEPN) into law with a view to further enhance environmental practice as a profession.

Chief Essien, who is also the Corporate Health, Safety and Environment Manager of the Nigeria Liquefied Natural Gas Limited (NLNG), averred that these efforts were geared towards making the environment conducive not just for humanity but for workers to pursue their career aspirations in a healthy, safe and environmentally conducive atmosphere.

He stated that efforts by WAMASON, as an NGO, will sustain its efforts at creating the necessary awareness on proper wastes management through campaigns and advocacy, positing that the Society would also continue to influence different levels of government through the Ministries of Environment and the agencies and parastatals under them to make enabling laws and regulations to encourage proper wastes management.

He encouraged workers to take their health and wellbeing seriously by taking time off to rest, eat good food, share quality time with their families, and remain affable at work, noting that prioritizing the cleanliness of their homes and workplaces was a critical component in the quest at living a good life and progressing in one’s career.

The WAMASON President congratulated the workers “on this auspicious occasion of celebrating a special day set aside to identify and celebrate the excellent work, passionate drive and unmeasured commitment of workers globally at making the world a better place”.
