More than 100 students have stopped attending classes due to the poor state of LEA Primary School Ledi 2, located in the Gwagwalada Area Council of the Federal Capital Territory, Abuja.
The school’s dilapidated classrooms, leaking roofs, and shortage of furniture have made it unfit for learning, compelling young students to discontinue their education.
This was made known in a statement issued by Monitng, a civic technology platform dedicated to public accountability, where they expressed concern over the school’s neglected condition and called on FCT Minister Nyesom Wike and FCT Senator Ireti Kingibe to take immediate action.
The appeal was made on X (formerly Twitter) on the official Monitng account, and was posted with the hashtags #ActNow and #FixOurSchools, urging prompt action to protect the educational future of the pupils.
“Attn @GovWike and @IretiKingibe This is the UNFORTUNATE state of LEA Primary School Ledi 2 in Gwagwalada Area Council, FCT Abuja.
Due to broken-down classrooms, leaking roofs, and lack of furniture.
Over 100 PUPILS have stopped attending school.
We urge @GovWike and @IretiKingibe to address this critical issue for the children’s future. #ActNow #FixOurSchools”
According to Ilevbaoje Uadamen, founder of Monitng, the government consistently overlooks the needs of its citizens, focusing instead on projects that lack substantial impact, resulting in misallocated priorities.
“Rather than prioritizing education, the government often focuses on projects that don’t address citizens’ core needs,”
“This leads to misplaced priorities in the budget. It’s essential for citizens’ needs to guide project implementation and budget planning to ensure impactful development.”
The platform implored the government to shift its focus toward essential services, such as education, to promote community progress and safeguard the well-being of future generations.
