The opportunity to serve as student union leaders is not quick to self-enrichment but an honourable platform to render selfless service to fellow students and be a role model.

This was the advice offered to the leadership of the National Union of Bonny Students (NUBS) by the Chairman of Bonny Local Government Area, David Irimagha, when the union led by its immedaite past National President, Andrew Abraham Wilcox, paid him a courtesy visit in his office in Bonny.

“You should not see students unionism as a means of enriching yourself and ensure you run a transparent and all inclusive administration.”

The NUBS leadership also used the opportunity of the visit, which had in attendance the Chief of Staff to the Chairman, Uriel John-Jumbo, to confer an award of honour on the Bonny LG Chairman.

A statement by his Special Assistant On Media and Publicity, Williams Ogbah Agwu, said the Bonny LG Chairman congratulated the newly inaugurated leadership led by the National President, Daniel Chapp-Jumbo, urging them to focus more on their studies, which was the main aim of their being in the tertiary institutions.

“Let me first congratulate the newly elected executives of NUBs and I will also not fail to advise you students to take your academic studies serious.”

He assured them of his support at all times, reiterating his administration’s drive to reposition educational institutions and pursue the welfare of students from the area.

“My office is always open to give listening ears to students only when it has to do with academic activities and wish you all well in your academic pursuit.”

Presenting the award on the Bonny LG boss, the immediate past National President of NUBS, Andrew Abraham Wilcox, applauded him for his constant recognition of and support to the union, adding that his outstanding contributions has helped in the overall development and success of the union.

He used the occasion to introduce his successor, Daniel Chapp-Jumbo to the Chairman, thanked the Bonny Local Council boss for granting them audience, and briefed the latter on some key points of his administration which he was poised on pursuing to realization for the benefit of the students of Bonny origin.
