Jumbo House of Bonny Kingdom in Rivers State, landlords to Shell Petroleum Development Company of Nigeria Limited (SPDC), have picketted the company’s Bonny Oil and Gas Terminal (BOGT) demanding that the company avails it the inherent benefits accruable through the lease of its land.

The BOGT is situated on land jointly leased to SPDC by the Brown Major House and Jumbo House of Bonny Kingdom in Rivers State.

The proceeds of the lease, which cover the monetary payment, employment opportunities and contract slots, are shared on a 30/30/40% formula between the Brown House, Jumbo House and Bonny Kingdom.

But speaking with Kristina Reports on Wednesday, November 13, 2024 at the entrance gate of SPDC in Bonny, Rivers State, Chairman of Akatikpo Park Community, George Jumbo lamented that the Jumbo House has yet to benefit from job opportunities and contract slots in the Terminal.

George Jumbo

He dismissed insinuations that the Jumbo House was factionalized thus inhibiting efforts at accessing its due share of opportunities accruable from the SPDC facility in Bonny.

He asserted the House was united in its demand for its 30% share of jobs, contracts, scholarships, etc, stressing that the marginalization of the House being a landlord to the company was unfair and unacceptable.

He thanked the Amanyanabo and Natural Ruler of Bonny Kingdom, His Majesty, King Edward Asimini William Dappa Pepple III, CON, DSSRS, JP, Edward I, Perekule XI, for his forthrightness, fatherly disposition and insistence that the companies avail its landlords their dues.

He called the leadership of Shell Nigeria to intervene and do the needful by directing the BOGT management team to avail the Jumbo House its dues.
