The Rivers State Government says it is praiseworthy for indigenes of the State to invest at home as it would boost the local economy, improve its global investment rating and scale up its Tourism potentials.
The State Commissioner for Local Government Affairs, Boma Iyaye said this on Friday, April 7, 2023 during the commission of The Gibs Hotel, a four-star hotel that just debuted in Port Harcourt, Rivers State.
He commended the Managing Director/CEO, Dr Fubara Dan-Jumbo, for bringing such huge investment home, despite the fact that he resides in Lagos State.
“I want to say that you are a very, very good Port Harcourt boy. I want to appreciate you for bringing such a huge investment to Port Harcourt; the spirit of Port Harcourt is with you, despite making your money in Lagos, out of Port Harcourt. You felt you must come back home to do something for Port Harcourt. So, I must commend you for that.”
“Fubara, I’m assuring you that this investment you have put here today will never fail by the grace of God. The singular fact that you recognize the fact that you need to have a presence in Port Harcourt, your hometown, God will make sure that this investment will multiply, not only multiplying, we will have several branches of this all through the country.”
In his remarks, Chief Executive Officer of The Gibs Hotel, Dr. Fubara Dan-Jumbo informed his guests that the hotel is part of a business model aimed at delivering big value to the hospitality, oil and gas, and other sectors of the economy, while thanking them for their supportive roles towards achieving the feat.
“One thing that is sure in what we are doing and even the one we did back in Lagos is that we have got a model and our model is working.”
“I’m a researcher, a scientist, I am very sure of models. Once you get a model right, take it anywhere. Take it to Haiti, which is the poorest country in the world, the model will work. So, I’m not in anyway in any doubt that The Gibs model will work in Rivers State, it will work.”
He commended the State Governor, Nyesom Wike for his ease of doing business efforts, saying this has paid off by making Port Harcourt, the Garden City, attractive for investors, describing it as “encouraging”.
“We have travelled far and wide, we have gone far a bit in the world and we have seen good things and what will be the best thing you think about when you see those good things? That is why I love the Governor. He has changed the Garden City. He has complimented what is happening because he has also travelled abroad and he has seen those things and brought them back home. This is something so encouraging.”
Also speaking, Chairman of the occasion, Clinton Dan-Jumbo, who is also the Chairman, Board of Directors of the Bonny Island Hotel, said The Gibs is the replication of the vision of their late father, Elder Gibson Dan-Jumbo, disclosing that during his lifetime, their father envisaged endeavours that were entrepreneurial as they would impact lives through job creation and career growth opportunities.
Dan-Jumbo, who is the Head of the Gibson Dan-Jumbo family, informed that the Bonny Island Hotel is a subsidiary of The Gibs Hotel, which is the flagship of their investment foray into the hospitality industry, noting that the name would be changed in due course to reflect this development, commending his younger brother, whom he said is “the one the grace of God has fallen on to do great things”.
“This is the headquarters of all of them and this will be the replication of what we will see going on, even outside of this country. So, that is the vision; my father’s vision back in 2019. Unfortunately, he is no more with us, he’s not here to witness this event.”
“He is a man who came from nothing but his dreams and aspirations were such that he imparted in us the grace to fear God. He keeps telling us that the Bible declares that the children of a man who fears God shall be great, that’s what he tells us.”
“What you are seeing here, the Bible tells us that by strength shall no man prevail. It’s not by the effort of anybody and that is why we are mindful by returning all the glory and all the honour and adoration to God. The grace is planted on my younger brother, Dr. Fubara Dan-Jumbo, he is one that is birthing all of us and it can only be God.”
He stated that the hotel is a place where anyone who steps in would be treated like a king or queen, noting that it’s a world class hotel, enumerating the various topnotch facilities that would make guests feel comfortable where eating or lodging therein.
“This one like I said is not another hotel, it’s a place where when you step in from the gate, you will be treated like the kings and queens that you are as soon as you step in here; that is the vision here because everyone counts. Regardless of who you are, as you step into this gate, from the gate you shall be treated like a queen or a king, that is our expectation.”
In their goodwill messages, friends of the Gibson Dan-Jumbo family, Prince Chinedu Igwenazor and Aaron Brown, lauded the facility and staff members, observing that they are well trained and disposed to according guests an exotic treatment, lauding the CEO and his family for their entrepreneurial vision.
Igwenazor: “When you come to a hotel’ for instance, I found an experience at the gate, the reception I get at the gate tells me the kind of place I am going to. In a hotel two things are very important, one is hospitality and the other one is comfort.”
“There are some hotels you go to, you find out that the walls, the floorss are not levelled but here the floors are levelled, and I go on to say to you that as much as the floors are levelled, the people here are also very very levelled.
