Rotary Goes Big on Education as District Governor Unveils Projects in Bonny

Rotary has stepped up its support for Education with the delivery of 200 desks, renovated classrooms, improved toilet facilities and a water reservoir at Community Secondary School, Finima in in Bonny Local Government Area of Rivers State.

The projects were commissioned on Friday, October 9, 2026, by Rotary International District 9141 Governor, Anthony Olikagu, as part of efforts to improve the school’s learning environment.

The intervention covered the provision of 200 desks, rehabilitation of four classrooms, renovation of two toilets and installation of a water reservoir to support hygiene and sanitation.

The projects were executed jointly by the Rotary Clubs of Grand Bonny, Bonny Island and Finima, with support from 35 Rotary clubs and two Rotaract clubs in Port Harcourt.

The school’s principal, Justina Hart, welcomed the intervention, saying the facilities would improve students’ comfort and make the school environment more conducive to learning.

“I am very happy that the children will be able to sit comfortably in class and have clean toilets to use and water to keep it clean, all thanks to Rotary,” she said.

The Bonny Local Government Chairman, represented by the Supervisor for Education, Sofiri Pepple, also commended Rotary for investing in the school’s facilities.

“I commend Rotary for what they have done to uplift the school and give the children a conducive learning environment,” Pepple said.

Beyond infrastructure, the event featured an anti-cultism sensitisation session tagged “Say No to Cultism,” delivered by the Adjutant of the 146 Battalion Nigerian Army, Captain Sunday Sule.

The session highlighted the dangers and consequences of cult-related activities, urging students to make responsible choices and avoid involvement in cultism.

The collaboration among Rotary clubs and other partners demonstrates how service organisations can support schools in addressing basic infrastructure and student welfare needs.

With the Finima project, Rotary has delivered practical improvements in classroom seating, water access and sanitation—key requirements for a healthier and more supportive learning environment.

The intervention reflects Rotary’s guiding principle of “Service Above Self” and District 9141’s theme, “Create Lasting Impact.”
