Rivers State Governor, Siminalayi Fubara says the highly anticipated second edition of the Rivers International Film Festival (RIFF) will benefit the people of the State as it would serve as a platform for promoting the creative industry and showcasing the rich cultural heritage of the State.
Fubara said this recently when he received a delegation from Desgol Entertainment Worldwide, organizers of the festival, led by its Chief Executive Officer, Kate Ezeigbo in Government House, Port Harcourt, Rivers State.
He expressed his administration’s commitment to supporting the creative industry, recognizing its vital role in providing relaxation and entertainment after a long day.
“We are happy that you are holding this for the second time here in Rivers State. The creative industry has a special place in our hearts because when you are done with a hectic day, the next thing you need is relaxation, and movies are one of the best ways to relax. It’s a youth-oriented program, and it will benefit the people of Rivers.”
The event, which is billed to take place from October 24 to 27, 2024, is aimed at promoting the creative industry within the state and showcasing its rich cultural heritage to the world.
Fubara, who is hailed as a youth-friendly Governor, emphasized the importance of the event in providing opportunities for the people of Rivers State, particularly those in the Nollywood industry.
Earlier, the Chief Executive Officer of the Desgol Entertainment Worldwide, disclosed that the festival will feature free medical services, capacity building workshops, and skill acquisition programmes, all aimed at empowering the local population.
“We are ready to receive people from all over the world to come and experience the cultural heritage of Rivers State and witness our hospitality.”
Highlighting the overwhelming responses, the festival has received, with 2,297 entries submitted from 220 countries, Ezeigbo praised the Governor’s leadership, stating that, “Our dear Governor, thank you for being so exceptional in your style of leadership”.
“This festival will rewrite the false story told beyond about our dear state. Every October, as they gather here, they will see for themselves that we are peace-loving, hardworking, and have intelligent youths ready to take on the world.”
She noted that the Rivers International Film Festival promises to be a celebration of culture, creativity, and community, drawing attention to the vibrant and dynamic spirit of Rivers State.
