Residents of Bonny Local Government Area and Onne community in Eleme Local Government Area may now go about their normal businesses following lifting of the 17 days old total lockdown by Rivers State Governor, Nyesom Wike.
In a statement made available by the State Commissioner for Information, Paulinus Nsirim minutes ago, the Governor clarified that the respite takes effect from 6am Tuesday, July 7, 2020.
The State Government spokesman added that “Governor Nyesom Wike will also make a state-wide broadcast to the people of the state on Wednesday, July 8, 2020.”
Recall that earlier today, Kristina Reports had reported that the Governor may lift the lockdown today or tomorrow to enable residents of Bonny LGA access the palliatives sent to them by the Rivers State Government.
It is not clear whether the lifting will be only for awhile to enable the both communities rejig and thereafter resumption of lockdown or normality has come to stay.
Whatever the case maybe, the Wednesday’s broadcast by the Governor will straighten matters.
Governor Wike had imposed a total lockdown on Bonny LGA and Onne in Eleme LGA, June 21st, 2020 as part of measures to flatten the curve of COVID-19 after the dreaded pandemic took an astronomic surge in the areas.
