The residents of Amanyanabo Polo in Okrika Local Government Area of Rivers State have complained of neglect from the local government authorities over the years as they cannot even boast of a good water facility.
In an interview with Kristina Reports, the Vice Chairman of the Committee Development Committee, George Loveday refuted the claim of an ongoing borehole construction, saying that the residents have to go as far other wards and neighbouring villages to get water.

“We have a Councillor that has promised to set up a borehole for us. We have a lot of water challenges and for good seven months we’ve not had water.”
George added that the situation is affecting everybody especially the students as they take the pain of going far to get water before they go to school.
“Sometimes I feel for my son, because he has to go very far to get water and it’s not easy. So we’re praying that the local government should help us because water is very important.

The vice chairman also complained of poor drainage system as the rains come, making water remain stagnant and causing the environment to be dirty.
In another session with Kristina Reports, one of the residents, Bakapaye Tamunobubelebara, a fishmonger confirmed all that the chairman said are the plights of the community.
However, in her words, she blamed the Community Development Committee members for their inability to push forward for these developments to thrive, asserting that greedy and selfishness have consumed them, making them turn blind eyes to the plight.
“Na the vice chairman nai no dey try, make them change the vice chairman because he no dey do anything. Na only to chop money, money wey dem give everybody, instead him go share am, him go pocket.”
“Even fine money sef, them no go use am do better things, they go just share the money chop and things dey spoil dey go”
Bakapaye also lamented on the poor drainage system and recalled how efforts have been made by community members but because of lack of support and good leadership, it’s now nipped up in a bud.
“Even our drainage, before we go come out do sanitation, clean the gutter, we don tell am say make him look for eat put blocks, raise the gutter up, so that water fit pass well.
“When rain fall, you go pity us here. We no go fit pass. Everything na for our house e dey enter. So, make dem help us.”
Efforts to reach the chairman and the committee members on this issue proved abortive as at press time.
